Dr. Vasiliki Tzouvara is a Senior Lecturer in Psychological Trauma and Mental Health. She completed her funded PhD in Health Research, with a focus on mental health and psychology, at the University of Bedfordshire. She also holds a BSc in Psychology from the University of Wrexham/MBS College in Crete, an MSc in Public Health from the University of Bedfordshire, and an MSc in Psychology from the University of Leicester.

Dr Tzouvara’s research focuses on anxiety disorders, PTSD, adverse childhood experiences and psychological trauma in people with mental health problems. Dr Tzouvara has also a strong interest and experience in developing and evaluating novel interventions for PTSD, anxiety disorders and traumatic experiences. Dr. Tzouvara also has extensive experience in exploring and testing the mechanisms underlying interventions.

Dr. Tzouvara is a mixed-methods and participatory researcher experienced in using qualitative and quantitative approaches, conducting various types of reviews, and applying neurocognitive assessments to explore memory, attention, and brain function. She leads an NIHR RfPB-funded project that co-designs a trauma-informed intervention for acute care settings and contributes as a Co-applicant to an NIHR EME study testing a novel intervention for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in veterans. In this work, she leads the mechanistic research explaining how the intervention works and what cognitive and psychological factors shape its effectiveness.

Dr. Tzouvara is a member of the British Psychological Society, the UKRI Social Isolation and Loneliness Research Network, and the UKRI Abuse and Violence in Mental Health Research Network. She also serves as the PhD Coordinator for the Care for Long-Term Conditions Research Division and as the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Representative for both the Care for Long-Term Conditions Division and the Postgraduate Research (PGR) School at the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care, King’s College London.

Dr Tzouvara supervises various projects by BSc dissertation students, MSc and MRes dissertation students, PhD students.
